ONE YEAR IN OFFICE: OFOU, CHIAZOR,EDOREH LIST OBOREVWORI’S ACHIEVEMENTS.
Senior Media Aides to Delta State Governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, have said Deltans rate his performance high, pointing at his policy on the continuation and completion of inherited projects, commitment to workers’ welfare, human capital development and the enhancement of peace and security
The verdict was given by Comrade Felix Ofou, Executive Assistant to the governor on New Media, Comrade Norbert Chiazor, Executive Assistant, Media and Mr. Fred Edoreh, Senior Special Assistant Media, while speaking on a Bridge FM Radio Current Affairs programme,,”Delta Today” anchored by Ghene Igbogidi and monitored in Asaba on Thursday.
In his contribution to the programme, Ofou said it was a great policy for the Governor to have ensured the continuation and completion of inherited projects.
“What Governor Oborevwori has demonstrated is that gone are the days of abandoned projects in Delta State.The projects are meant to serve the people.They were started with state funds and it only makes sense that they are vigorously pursued to logical conclusion under the new administration, even as the Governor initiates new ones,” Ofou said.
Giving evidence of Oborevwori’s performance and achievements in one year, Comrade Chiazor pointed to a number of game changing projects under the administration.
“At his very colourful inauguration ceremony, he promised to give Warri area a facelift in infrastructural renewal and development, and all Deltans can see what is going on in the oil cty now, with Julius Berger constructing mega bridges and road expansion projects.
“The Warri projects are important because that is the economic nerve centre of the state and deserved to be so developed to attract and sustain greater business investments and commercial activities.
“Just recently, the Olu of Warri drove into Ode-Itsekiri for the first time, following the pace of work on the Trans Warri-Ode Itsekiri road.
There are also other projects completed and ongoing in Delta North, Delta Central and Delta South.
“On workers’ welfare and human capital development, we can recall how the governor paid up the N5billion workers’ promotion arrears, N40billion support for local government councils to meet up with their obligations to pensioners, and the recruitment of about 2000 teaching and non-teaching staff for primary schools across the state.
“We have also seen the Delta CARES programme in which the beneficiaries have been raised from about 36,353 to 110,841 under one year.”
Also highlighting the performance of the Governor, Mr Edoreh said that what comes out clear is not just Governor Oborovweri’s commitment to the advancement of the state but the high sense of strategy which he has brought to bear in driving the development trajectory
“All Deltans can see that, there is an increased intensity of work on the Ughelli-Asaba Expressway Project, just as Julius Berger is working steadily on the Warri flyover bridges and road expansion projects.
“There is also the Beneku Bridge in Ndokwa which is almost 98 percent completed and has eliminated the former pontoon system. The Bedeseigha Bridge that connects Bomadi and about five other local government areas have also been completed, even as work is in focus on Ayakoromo Bridge, Orere Bridge and others. There are numerous projects in the riverine communities like in Kurutie, Okenrenkoko, Ogulagha and so on.
“In my area, Isoko, there is the Emevor-Orogun Road, and Phase 2 of the Olomoro-Enwhe-Uwherun road that connects the East-West Road, all completed. Just as the Ohore-Adagbrassa Road connecting various communities have been completed, same way as various street projects in Ughelli area.
“In Anioma area, we have the Okpanam-Ibusa Bypass, the Old Umutu-Abraka-Eku road, the Isheagu-Ewulu Road and bridge, the Ibusa Road from Koka Bridge into Asaba, the storm water drainage project in Ika North East and many more.
“What the Governor did by way of strategy was to put some of the big projects on Irrevocable Standing Payment Order, ISPO, which means that at the end of every month the contractors receive payments from the banks to keep on their works. That way, funding is sustained and the projects are secured.
“The spread of projects is very evenly distributed not only across communities and the Senatorial Districts but also across sectors.
“We also saw him commission various projects in Delta State University, Anwai, Delta State University of Science and Technology, Ozoro, while more projects have been delivered at the University of Delta, Agbor.
“Governor Oborevwori has also done very well in the maintenance of peace and security in the state. Despite the unfortunate Okuama incident, the Governor has lived up to his promise of enhanced peace and security and Delta remains one of the safest states to live and invest within Nigeria”
Edoreh said.
More accomplishments of governor Oborevwori are expected to be rolled out ahead of his one year anniversary in office.
